Leafing through Black Book Magazine's 2007 travel issue, somewhere after the hot Rose McGowan piece, we saw something scary. No it wasn't another androgynous model in an American Apparel bathing suit, it was something far more shocking--a full page advertisement for Six Columbus.
The obvious question might be, why in the world is Six Columus, Jason Pomeranc's years delayed renovation of the West Park Hotel in Manhattan, advertising when there is still "no set date" for opening? That we can not tell you.
However, if your next question is, why on earth is Six Columbus, the hotel world's Chinese Democracy, buying ad space to display an ad with no hotel contact information, no hotel website information (unless you count "thompsonhotels.com"), and no real message, in one of the glossy monthlies? That we can answer.
No, it is not because Pomeranc is looking to create hotel hype for Six Columbus's long rumored impending opening, lord knows he gets enough of that from obsessed web publications. The answer is that Pomeranc and Black Book have a working relationship. One that involves the co-production of "Room 100"--an in-room magazine with Adrian Brody on the cover. We are sure part of the co-production deal involved some ad barter in Black Book. Which is all well and good, and we are thinking years ago, when Thompson did this deal they figured "Hey, by the time the May 2007 travel issue rolls around Six Columbus will surely be open." No such luck.
