The resort has ten rooms, or bandas, built along the periphery of a mini-forest that thrives at the island center, so you'll be divinely occluded from the eyes of other guests and staff.
Rooms - and they are indeed just rooms, the bandas have no windows or doors, just roll-up palm thatch blinds -- come with huge detached bathrooms reachable along covered walkways, shaded verandas and swing beds.
Given that you're surrounded by water, the hotel chefs make delectable seafood dishes, and during your stay you're likely to partake in a beach barbecue.
There's a bar and library, TV in the common area (if you must), and a dining area - but you can always opt to take your meals right on the beach, or in the naked privacy of your banda.
It's not just necessarily you that will be au natural. Mnemba is a wildlife sanctuary, as well as being surrounded by coral reefs, making for optimal diving and snorkeling. There are 600 species of coral reef fish, humpback whales, green turtles, and dolphin pods.
Conde Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure have both given Mnemba Island high marks for most romantic beach resort, plus it gets extra kudos for the five-star IDC PADI dive school.
But what about all those negative reviews on Tripadvisor? This is, of course, a trick statement. There are NO negative reviews on Tripadvisor. Comments report that Mnemba is simply "Romantic." "Special." "Superb." "Paradise on Earth."
The all-inclusive rate is US$750 per person a night, covering your banda, booze, three square meals, snorkeling, and laundry. The small print also states that the island cannot accommodate more than two children at a time, so get a sitter or check the front desk before departure. You'll Mnemba want to go home.
