Bad Rate:: No Good Cheap One Night Stand Rooms in the Desert

April 17, 2007 at 12:26 PM | by juliana | 1 Comment

[Ed. Note: This is the Bad Rate in our Good Rate/Bad Rate feature. The rates listed here were valid on April 17, 2007 and is subject to change. Enjoy.]

We guess if you were headed to the desert for a relaxing weekend (or perhaps a last-ditch attempt at saving a failing celebrity relationship), forking out $345 a night for the Le Parker Meridien might be worth it. But if you want to do a quick shopping trip at the Desert Hills Premium Outlets, or if you're interested in a one night stand, there's really nowhere to stay for a night since most of the less expensive places request a two-night minimum.

One place that does not and that was available was the Hilton Palm Springs Resort at $235 which still seems steep for a one night stay at a Hilton and one reviewer says don't forget about the parking and resort fees.

And even if you do decide to book a higher-end resort like the Viceroy Palm Springs, just remember who you might be sharing the place with.

Great and fun place - particularly before the LA crowd arrives for weekend who tend to be a little too fabulous. (Overheard at pool on cell phone - "no no getting you 100 million will NOT be a problem")

    Hi,
My name is Tom Mulhall. My wife and I own the Terra Cotta Inn in sunny Palm Springs, CA. I am also a past president of the Palm Springs chamber of commerce.

You picked 2 of the "trendier" hotels in Palm Springs which is why you were quoted those high rates. Palm Springs has hotels for all sorts of niches and price ranges.

It has hotels for nudists and the clothing optional guest, families, gays and lesbians, bed and breakfast lovers, historical hotels, business travelers, honeymooners,  budget, moderate, and espensive hotels, etc.

April is high season. Most good hotels will have been booked in advance by repeat guests wanting long weekends or vacations. If you wanted a reasonably priced hotel for a quick 1 night getaway, you would have had more choices on Sunday thru Thursday nights in April.

In any resort community, like Aspen, South Beach, Palm Springs, etc., if you only want a Saturday night stay, you will find very few choices.

Palm Springs has something for everyone in all sorts of price ranges, just not for last minute Saturday night stay in high season. Look to http://palmsprings.com to see many hotel choices and things to do in Palm Springs.
