Once again, we are answering your hotel questions. This one is a good one as it pertains to the new Sean MacPherson/Eric Goode hotels on NYC's LES. MQ Smith writes in:

I live farther out than you can imagine but son is graduating from NYU, so...which of these is the better choice?? Bowery or Lafayette?

PLEASE, you are in NY and I am in a weed field! A word to the desperate would be appreciated.

Have no fear desperate weedie. We break down the Pros and Cons of each hotel here.

BOWERY HOTEL

Pros: A friend recently stayed there and loved it. The floor to ceiling windows let in lots of natural light, the wireless internet was amazing and the hotel is having intro rates of $275 a night. Another HotelChatter tipster, who is also an industry insider, got an early tour of the Bowery, and here is what he had to say:

Just came back from a day at the soon to open Bowery Hotel in NYC. I've seen almost 100 hotels in the past year, including some of NYC best and let me tell you, this place is gonna give them a run for their money. 10,000 sq foot bar and event space, 2 restarunts, floor to ceiling factor style windows and super deep soaking tubs in the rooms. The lobby alone is so comfortable you may not even bother checking in.

Cons: The location and the neighborhood is probably what hurts the Bowery most. Indeed one Bowery guest we spoke with said he would probably not recommend this place for his parents.

Before the property even opened we heard about the nearby Methadone clinic. Then after it opened, a tipster let us know there was a homeless man trying to sell a boombox for $500 out front. Most recently, Gawker reported a scuffle broke out in front of the hotel where knives were drawn. (Maybe the homeless man was angry no one would buy his boombox?)

Yet our friend stayed there during this alleged knife incident and didn't get wind of it until safely back in Los Angeles. Besides the doorman reportedly ushered in some bystanders and shut the hotel door to protect them from the fight. Clearly, the hotel staff values your life here. Something you don't always find in New York.

Other cons not related to location? The toilets may not work very well, the cleaning staff is overly ambitious, the bar drinks are steep in cost and the restaurant is not yet open (keep checking back).

LAFAYETTE NYC

Pros: The Lafayette is smaller with only 14 rooms so it gives off a bed & breakfast vibe which might suit someone who lives in the middle of weed field much better than a hip boutique hotel.

Cons: The rates are slightly higher here at $350 and you're also right next to the Bowery Bar which can get noisy at night. Then again, if your son is partying at Bbar you can join him for a bit and then head up to your room. Lastly, we haven't seen or heard reviews from people who have recently stayed there. However, above, we do have an exclusive video room tour.

BOTTOM LINE:We say Bowery. The reviews seem legit and besides, after living in the middle of nowhere, don't you wanna walk on the wild side for once?
