Cubicle Dreamin': Medieval Germany at the Eisenhut
Cubicle Dreamin' is a feature in which we ask the hotel mavens to take some time out of their busy work day, surf the Internet, and tell us what hotel they wish they could beam themselves to right that very second--all on the slave driving companies dime, of course. Oh, like these people aren't surfing aimlessly anyway--at least now their purposeless clicking will be cobbled together into useful hotel stories--we hope. Have a destination hotel you are just dying to leave your cube for? Send the story our way.
In this episode, Hotel Maven Amanda K finds an interesting place for a Deutchland getaway. Enjoy.

One of the most romantic towns in Germany (though unfortunately it's sometimes too popular with the tourists) is Rothenburg ob der Tauber, one of those quintessential cobble-stoned German villages that you can't help but fall in love with. My pick for an authentic German weekend is a stay at the Eisenhut Hotel Rothenburg--granted the name mightn't sound quite so romantic but the hotel location (and what's inside) make up for it. It actually is made up of four houses "joined", each of them several hundred years old. Some of the antique-furnished rooms have views over the gorgeous Tauber Valley, and it's right next to one of the best shops around for Christmas decorations.
A quick warning, though: I was totally convinced that the Eisenhut was the place for me until I read further on their homepage:
The most wealthy and powerful families of Rothenburg used to live in these houses. Feel their spirit in today's hotel rooms.
Sounds to me suspiciously like this place is haunted, but perhaps that's part of the charm.
Doubles start from around $200, or you can pick up all kinds of great deals for special occasions, including an Easter deal, a Christmas Market package, or weekends to coincide with historical festivals in Rothenburg with extras like theater tickets and museum entrances thrown in.
