JDV's Official Response To Racial Profiling Incident at Cathedral Hill Hotel
[Ed. Note: This is the official response from JDV Hospitality about the racial profiling incident at Cathedral Hill Hotel. For the full story, see our exclusive report.]
Thank you for contacting Joie de Vivre about the incident that occurred at Cathedral Hill Hotel.
This guest was involved in an unfortunate incident with a newly-hired security agent. The situation was quickly diffused and the guest who was holding a one-night reservation was immediately upgraded and offered priority check-in. We then extended his stay five additional days, with room, food and beverage accepted on a complimentary basis. After immediate suspension and further review of the incident, the Joie de Vivre employee involved in the incident was terminated.
Upon departure, the guest thanked management for the services and action taken and was satisfied with the outcome of the situation. While it was a disappointment to receive notice of further action, Joie de Vivre is confident that our employee and guest practices provide a solid foundation to defend against the allegations of this complaint.
Joie de Vivre rates racial profiling and/or discrimination among the highest of offenses and to prevent such situations, requires diversity training for all employees and takes pride in hiring a diverse workforce. It is also a company priority to partner with organizations in our community to support the thriving multicultural fabric that is San Francisco. We hope, that through our commitment to treating all individuals as equal, Joie de Vivre will continue to be regarded as an outstanding business, employer and most importantly, community member.
