Bad Rate :: The New Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica on Expedia
[Ed. Note: Welcome to our Good Rate/Bad Rate feature where we usually look at hotel prices in the same city and decide which more deserves your hard-earned benjamins. The screen shot here was captured on March 12, 2007 and rates are subject to change. Enjoy.]

In our Good Rate this week, we pointed out an excellent $99 a person all-inclusive deal at the brand new Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica, in Runaway Bay. How much will you pay if you just book it at Expedia instead? All those sites are the same, right?
Um, no. You'll pay more than double--more proof you always need to shop around.
If you book the same room class and dates at Expedia as you do at BookIt.com, you'll pay $438 a night instead of $198. The three-night total with taxes comes to $1,368.69, compared to less than $600 with BookIt's grand opening deal--including taxes. Not to pick on Expedia though: Travelocity and Orbitz didn't even have the hotel listed yet. It's probably too new and too unproven to show up in all the booking sites yet. Which means we the guests should probably not be paying list price while they work out all the kinks on site and use us as guinea pigs for staff training.
To avoid a Bad Rate, take a bit of time to do your homework. Otherwise it could cost you, to the tune of $700 or more.
