Hotel 373 Makes Manhattan Under $200 a Night Do-Able

Manhattan has a new Fifth Avenue hotel for tourists--the Hotel 373, named for its street address.
A 70-room boutique hotel with reasonable rates starting at $179 a night, the place has the all the requisite boutique hotel amenities from free WiFi to flat-screen LCD Tvs to an iPod docking station. It's even pet-friendly too.
It's a somewhat bare-bones operation. There's no full service restaurant or spa or fitness center but the Hotel 373 bistro is open for breakfast and lunch and the hotel has direct lobby access to a brand-new Starbucks.
Yet, Hotel 373 strictly caters to the tourists with corridors that are decorated with photographs of New York landmarks and tons of copy on the web site about all the great things the hotel is close to. And don't be fooled by that Fifth Avenue address either. The cross street is 35th Street in Herald Square which makes it closer to Macys, H&M, and Lord & Taylor than Central Park, Bergdorfs and Henri Bendel. But if rates can hold at $179 a night, who cares?
Interesting to note is that the people who are behind this, Magna Hospitality, are also the people behind the Holiday Inn Express at 45th and 5th and the Holiday Inn in Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood.
And they aren't done yet. Look for more of these budget but cool places to open in 2007 alone.
