The Hotel Name Game

February 27, 2007 at 3:45 PM | by | Comments (0)

What might be the next emerging hotel trend has nothing to do with green building, high-tech amenities or personal service. Nope, what we're seeing is hotel-naming contests.

JDV Hospitality held one to name their newest hotel in Japantown (the winning moniker will be announced this spring when the hotel opens) and now, Oxygen.com has just completed their contest for the Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott show, "Inn Love". Entries were being collected to name the inn that Tori and Dean are running in Los Angeles.

The "lucky" winner gets to attend the couple's B&B gala where they unveil their new B&B, its name and hopefully, Tori will be able to pop that baby out on cue for an extra ratings push.

Ok, so hotel naming contests are not necessarily new things. We're sure people have been doing this for years. But we aren't sure how we feel about this in this day and age. Will it turn into the mess of stadium and arena names like Petco Park or the American Airlines Arena? Now, that Bill Gates has bought the Four Seasons chain is a Microsoft name change coming? Think about it. We'll be hanging here with Chicken Little....
