Cubicle Dreamin': Staying in Beckham's Castle

Ever since the English soccer team set up camp here for the 2006 World Cup, I've had a thing about the Buhlerhohe Schlosshotel near Baden Baden in south-west Germany. This is not some Beckham-following-fantasy (I promise) but simply falling in love with this romantic castle stuck up in the Black Forest surrounded by those perfect Christmas pine trees. And while their website blathers on about nearby casinos and shopping, I think they've kind of missed the point, and should simply be offering free helicopter rides so you can get an aerial view of the special German paradise you're staying in.

However, even if you can't get off the ground, the views from the castle hotel into the woods are spectacular enough, and if the weather puts a stop even to that, then simply admiring the hotel itself should keep you satisfied. Just before the Pommies arrived last summer, the entire hotel was redecorated. Standard services include stuff like fireplaces in the bedrooms, limousine services and a personal butler (on request!). Double room rates start from $300 and go all the way up to nearly $3000. For that price you really should get my helicopter trip thrown in.
