Cooper Square Hotel Full Frontal

Where: 27 Cooper Sq [map], New York, ny, United States, 10003

Over at Curbed we caught our first glimpse of The Coop, Greg Peck's (of Crescent Beverly Hills Hotel fame) new Manhattan project.

The developers of the hotel, the Peckmoss Group, originally told the neighbors that this area at the corner of 5th and The Bowery would be a lush garden spot. But it seems the plants might get in the way of the hotel's party plans. The latest word is that the area will get just a wee bit of greenery. But mainly it will be an outdoor lounge--cocktails and ambient music and all. There will be another outdoor bar just above on the second floor. And yet a third bar in the basement. All right outside the neighbors' windows.

Damn. That is one big glass tower. Projects much differently than the low key, low rise Crescent.

Studio Carlos Zapata will head up the design effort. As for Gregory Peck, here is what he told us a couple week's back when we asked about The Coop:

We are not prepared to formally release any information about the project at this point other than to say that it will be a paradigm shifting project for the independent hotel industry.

Don't bother looking to the PeckMoss group website for any clues, there is nothing there. However, it seems that they are using GoDaddy, which is always a good thing.

I love how all these guys claim to offer a paradigm shif in the boutique hotel game. When will these want to be hoteliers understand that just becasue you hire a designer with a fancy name and build something wierd looking  does not mean your going to change the game. Hotels are about guest experience and service enviornment is only a part of that. Go to hotel school and then come talk to me. In the next few years i will be working on a idea that will actually change the way you view a boutique hotel, from top to bottom. Just you wait world.
