The Soho Grand was the site of two A-list parties the other night. According to Page Six, Mary J. Blige was holding an album release party in the Penthouse suite while the Cinema Society and DKNY were hosting a party for Woody Allen's newest movie, "Cassandra's Dream," starring Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor, on the mezzanine.
But isn't the rule never more than one A-list party at a time in the hotel? Or things are surely bound to go wrong. And that's what happened here.
Invited guests lined up for Blige's chaotic event grumbled they couldn't get in. "They're turning away so many people who've been invited," said one frustrated partygoer. And one in-the-know bystander told us the confusion was due to the folks at Blige's label, who "failed to find out how many people the penthouse fits."
Later in the evening, Blige and Farrell (whose movie was toasted by other celebs like Megan Mullally, Rosie Perez, Jay McInerny and Amy Sacco) wound up at the W Union Square's Underbar for drinks. Oh no they didn't!
