The Plaza Hotel Gets Delayed

The renovated Plaza Hotel was supposed to re-open this month but Kitty Beyonce over at Hotel Hotsheet is saying the opening has been called off.

The website still says the century-old hotel is due to reopen at the end of 2007. But when I called the Plaza reservations number (888-240-7775 ), I was told bookings now are being taken for March 1 and beyond. Rates start at $775 a night. A spokeswoman for the ballroom says it is taking reservations for January.

Could this delay have something to do with the rumored reports of asbestos or the lack of a famous chef or both? We'll have to see.
