We honestly didn't think Johnny Utah's--the cowboy-themed restaurant at the Rockefeller Center Hotel--would last more than a couple months. But apparently we underestimated the popularity of mechanical bull riding contests.

Monday night's round of riding was well attended by bull aficionados hoping to buck their way into the championship on January 3. Next Monday, another slate of cowboys will vie for their shot at the final. Rider Kay West was one of the top performers this week, says the New York Times:

She gave several breathtaking performances, staying aboard the bull at one point for about 30 seconds before being thrown like a rag doll into the pillowy folds of a large mat that cushioned her fall.

And, before you ask, yes, Manhattan's Naked Cowboy was there for the competition. He lasted a respectable 10 seconds.
