Usually we like to round up our favorite comments of the week and put them all together in a single post on Friday. But every now and then, there's a special commenter who grabs our attention. Namely, it's someone who stays at a hip new hotel and sends us their review.

We're not saying we don't appreciate the bed bug stories from Motel 11 in Indiana or Arkansas. Those are good to know for our next big road trip. But since we write so much about these new hip hotels we really want your take on them.

Hence, we are giving HotelChatter Maven Mari some big-ups today. She stayed at the brand new Keating Hotel in San Diego and wrote all about it. Now Mari, would you like two gold stars or the prized strawberry scratch n' sniff stickers?

Read Mari's full review after the jump.

The Keating Hotel recently opened last February and while it has the cool factor down with its bumping nightlife (literally bumping) and its slick design, the place seems to have trouble nailing the "hotel" factor down.

The LA Times gave it a so-so review, hating on the decor and the noisy neighborhood. It's also getting less than favorable reviews on TripAdvisor.

So what's going on with this place? Here's a recent review from HotelChatter Maven Mari:

Stayed there this weekend and was disappointed. For starters, it was expensive for not being able to get a good nights rest. Over $350 to stay there and get NO SLEEP. The music from the disco was loud at 1 am. Then when the music subsided, you can hear were the drunk obnoxious people walking the streets, yelling.

The room, eh.... It was modern, loved the BOSE system. But I have seen modern fixtures at my hardware store when we redid our home. So, not a big deal. The shower...looked cool, but the design of the head was too close to the shower entrance, so we got water all over the floor, which is a few feet from the bed.

The mouthwash....tastes like gargling Tres Flores or some cologne. I would have preferred a minty taste. Was there ever a problem with having a minty fresh mouthwash? Soap was pretty good. Towels were still fluffy. Bed was nice.

OK, so it was a nice try... wanted to see more Ferrari items in there, but just saw the color red and a few designs down below in the bar, which was open to the public, by the way.

I think they should have done a mock up of the room and had someone try it out and then modify the actual rooms so they would be FUNCTIONAL and ENJOYABLE.

Bed was comfy...but with the noise at night, it did not help much. My husband and I had bags under our eyes and when we left, chatted with some guests who were also leaving. I asked if they had a good nights rest...they also said NO. So, it has nice fixtures, nice designs, but the price is too much for not being able to rest. Made the drive up north difficult.

Oh, lastly...no garage for your nice car. They park it somewhere, though.

Interesting there are no garages for the guest cars because wasn't this hotel designed by the folks at Ferrari?

Do you agree, disagree or agree to disagree about Mari's review? If you've stayed at the Keating and want to share your story, then for god's sake let us know already.

Re: The Keating in San Diego is All Design

I had a totally opposite experience. I have to admit, at first I was a bit hesitant if I made the right decision booking the Keating for my stay. Looking at it from the outside, I thought I was getting one of these old hotels where the furniture hasn't been updated for 50 years, but it was totally the opposite. The hotel is a true diamond in the ruff. The service was great, the rooms were fantastic and all the details of the hotel tuely made this stay an experiece I will never forget. The bed has to be the most comfotable bed I have ever slept in, the only down side is that you can't buy the bed yet, they told me by the end of summer it will be available to purchase. As for the noise, I'm not sure if its because I'm from New York City, but I slept like a baby and the showers were the coolest showers I have ever used. This will be the only hotel I stay at when I return to San Diego! Everything about the hotel was perfect two thumbs up.
