Yesterday we posted news that Hilton Hotels would be expanding in Bogota, Colombia. Since the first thing we think of when we hear Colombia is Romancing the Stone and the second thing we think of is Medellin and Entourage, we put out a call for hotel recommendations in Bogota. Obviously our Hollywood reference won't help you dear readers.
Luckily for us HotelChatter Maven Tom Barnes gave us his thoughts on a few places to check out and a place to avoid.
See his recommendations after the jump.
From HotelChatter Maven Tom Barnes:
The Charleston may have lost a bit of luster, but it is still a pleasant place to stay. It's in a quiet residential section of town. The rooms are mostly suites and are spacious and pleasant, if not especially interesting. The hotel used to be part of the Relais & Chateaux group, but is no longer affiliated with them, that torch having been passed on to the Casa Medina.
I haven't stayed at the Casa Medina, but it is probably the best place to stay in town.
Our last visit to Bogota included a forced visit to the Tequendama Inter-Continental, courtesy of Avianca. The Tequendama, a vast ugly pile of brown brick, has seen better days, though I understand that a few floors have been renovated.
Our room was definitely in the unrenovated part of the hotel. It had a sort of early 1960's time warp thing going, with bad 60's modern art on the walls and lovely touches like bright mustard colored shower curtains. Just getting soap and shampoo in the morning was an adventure in itself.
Thanks Tom! If you agree, disagree or have another hotel in Bogota to recommend, let us know or comment below so that everyone can know.
