Kor Opening Second Zihuatanejo Resort, The Viceroy

Fresh off our review of The Tides Zihuatanejo comes word that the Kor Hotels Group is taking over a nearby plot of land to build a Viceroy and some expensive condos. This is also on top of their other Mexican in-development project, Viceroy Mayakoba in the Riviera Maya.

In our interview of Nicholas Clayton of Kor Hotels, he said the Viceroy brand was more of a city hotel style with great dining and bars. We're not sure how that applies to a small beach resort area with no city for hours in either direction, but "Tides II" doesn't have the same marketing appeal we suppose.

"Viceroy Zihuatanejo will feature all of the Viceroy brand's elite features, including provocative design, personalized and uniquely customized service, an array of opulent and modern amenities designed for leisure travelers, signature dining venues that reflect the distinctive character of their settings and a holistic wellness program offering contemporary, natural spa treatments," says the official news release.

Will the Viceroy Santa Monica push its celebrity guests to take a jaunt to the sister property in Zihuatanejo? We won't know until 2010 since this property hasn't broken ground yet, so you're safe from paparazzi photographers on the beach until then.

Kor's Viceroy Hotels and Resorts brand will offer properties in urban or resort destinations (such as mountain and beach).

Nick Clayton commented on this in his interview with Hotelchatter.com, stating, "Viceroy will be resorts that are more of an urban retreat although some will be near the beach and water."

Viceroy Zihuatanejo joins Viceroy Santa Monica, Viceroy Mayakoba and Viceroy Anguilla as beach-side offerings.

All Viceroy Hotels and Resorts will offer guests a multitude of services and amenities allowing them access to sporting activities, drinking and dining, holistic wellness options and more, enhancing their visit to the destination.

What will be the big difference? (none / 0)

Between Tides Zihuatanjeo and the Viceroy Zihuantanejo? Is one more family-friendly or is one more for adults on honeymoon/romantic getaways?

Tides Zihuatanejo has been operating for over 25 years, previously as Hotel Villa del Sol.  In its many years of operation, the hotel has welcomed couples, friends and families and still does.  Tides has created amenities and services that are ideal for inspirational getaways for romantic and non-romantic guests, alike.  The Tides Zihuatanejo will continue to grow in this direction, allowing Viceroy to be positioned as a multi-generational option.

Designed by famed architect Jean-Michel Gathy, Viceroy Zihuatanejo will be able to successfully and seamlessly operate as a full-service resort with newly constructed resort areas and will ultimately be positioned to provide families and all guests with greater options, such as sporting activities, kids and teens clubs and multiple food and beverage outlets.

We welcome guests of all ages to enjoy The Tides Zihuatanejo, the longest operating luxury resort in the area, and the only located right on the beach.
