Here's some fresh news about the Fresh Hotel in Athens, Greece. It labels itself an urban resort and boasts "subtle luxury", as well as pretty amazing views from the deck on top of the hotel (they stretch even to the Parthenon).

Recent guests have had lots of positive things to say about their stay at Fresh. They speak of helpful staff, a tasty breakfast with lots of alternatives to choose from and an impressive pool on the rooftop. The major downside seems to be that Fresh is located in a slightly seedy area and not everyone will feel safe walking back here at night; plus in true designer style, some rooms have those showers which looking incredibly cool but actually end up letting half your room get wet.

Rates are pretty reasonable at Fresh, with plenty of rooms available at around $200, including the excellent breakfast. Which of course, is served fresh.

  1. Fresh is Fine.

I recently stayed at the Fresh Hotel in Athens during my trip to the Greek Islands.
Location: It's definitely a well positioned hotel for tourists. It's within walking distance to the main attractions in Athens.

Rooms: The rooms are hip, very modern and definitely have a cool design. Although, you get the feeling that this is more of a "Hotel by Ikea" than a "Hotel by Philippe Starke" (but you are paying Ikea prices, so it's fair). Be aware that many rooms are by the super tiny elevator and the walls are paper thin so you'll hear everything!

Roof Top: The roof top has a pool, bar and a restaurant. The pool is more of a small dipping pool, where you'll most likely be trapped between the overly hairy tourist and a kid kicking on an float. The bar is okay, hip but not happening and the restaurant has no so good food and terrible service (other than the view of the Acropolis).

Concierge: There isn't one, and they were unfamiliar with some of the hottest restaurants in town.

On a good note they're opening an Ice Bar which I'm sure will bring touristy business to the place.

Inexpensive and hip but only for a night or two. Really it's just Fine.
