We spent Saturday night at the Hollywood Roosevelt and we picked probably the biggest night of the year at the hotel to stay there---the night of the Hollywood Roosevelt Halloween party.

The entire hotel--from the lobby to Teddy's to Tropicana--was transformed into one big Halloween party. Funny enough, we were headed to a different Halloween party at Social Hollywood (also attended by a certain scary but famous clown.)

Security was tight on every front of the hotel but fortunately for us, once we let them know we were hotel guests (each security outpost had a list of guest names) we were ushered inside.

MORE

It wouldn't be fair to the hotel or to you readers for us to do a full in-depth review of the hotel since we only spent 14 hours there from check-in to check-out and on their busiest night. And let's face it, those were not our most sober 14 hours either. Here's our quick impressions:

Room Reaction:
We're ripping off the band-aid and saying this was the "coolest" hotel room we have ever stayed in. GPH was too scary, Bowery felt too Victorian-esque to be cool and Gansevoort was too worn down. And none of the other Los Angeles hotels have this type of style. You can see for yourself here and in the video above. Also, the cabana suites are clearly the rooms to book.

Amenities:
Comfy king bed with linens by Sferra. Two bathrobes in the closet and one hanging off the shower. Fresh beauty products and lots of towels. Minibar goodies included a rather large bottle of our fave vodka, Ketel One. A flat-screen TV and prescription pills by the nightstand. Relax, it's just M&Ms. A cute daybed on the patio gives you a "private" poolside experience.

One word of advice: don't take a shower if you are drunk. The bathroom is all stone and it would hurt bad if you fell.

Service:
Young, good-looking, professional and efficient. Even on a big crazy night with people in costumes trying to get last-minute rooms, the staff was calm and collected.

And just so you know, it wasn't all young Hollywood people at the hotel. People from the Thelonious Monk Institue of Jazz were staying there and the next morning, we spotted a baby taking his first steps in the lobby. Awwww....

Party People:
Again, the biggest night of the year for the hotel so we saw a very atypical party situation. That said, the sliding doors in the room are super sound-proofed. We could only hear a very slight thumping of the bass. And on a normal night, music stops at 1:45am. But randomly, the housekeeping cart in the morning woke us up. Go figure.

Pool:
The next day, despite a wicked hangover and an aversion to sunlight, we noticed the pool, with its David Hockney brushstrokes on the bottom, was picture perfect. The floors had been washed down and bright white fluffy towels had covered each lounge chair. The clean-up team in this hotel must work hard and fast.

Bottom Line:
We've lived in LA too long now so we no longer get roped into the Hollywood fantasy. But looking at the pool on a beautiful sunny day in late October, we would have bought the Hollywood dream hook, line, and sinker to the tune of $400+ a night. Then the people who crashed out in the daybed in the suite next to us kinda ruined our mellow.
