Holiday Inns Everywhere To Get A Little Prettier

InterContinental Hotels announced plans to update its some 400,000 Holiday Inns throughout the country with a $1 billion makeover. It's the first major overhaul since the brand was launched in 1952. Franchise owners are expected to front most of the cash for the upgrades, between $50,000 and $200,000 each over the next three years. InterContinental will contribute up to $60 million.
The chain will also remodel its well-known green logo for the first time in 50 years.
The flowing script design on a green background logo, once featured on neon signs across America, will be replaced by a stylized white "H" on a green square.
The chain will also redesign its signs, and install new bedding and showers. The upgrades should be complete by 2010. And at this date, every highway offramp and small-town business district will get just a little bit fancier.
