HotelChatter contributing editor Tim Leffel left Hungary and the Czech Republic and headed for warmer climates in Acapulco, Mexico. For the next few days, we'll be running his hotel reports. If you have a question about where to stay in Acapulco, hit us on the tipline, or just comment below, and we will do our best to get you some sort of answer. Enjoy.

If a killer ocean view is at the top of your priority list and you fantasize about having your own hillside pool with a view outside your bedroom, Las Brisas Acapulco is your place. Billed as a hotel "where children are seldom seen but often made," it has been a favorite of honeymooners and romantic couples for 50 years.
Since it was established so long ago, it sprawls up and down a prime hillside with a view of the bay and ocean. The 231 rooms are actually individual casitas accompanied by 210 swimming pools: obviously having your own pool here is not just a luxury for the presidential suite guests. Many of the 32 master and junior suites have large pool terraces private enough for the elimination of tan lines. (Be advised though that the southern Pacific Coast sun is not to be taken lightly.)
MORE
Major ongoing renovations have kept Las Brisas from looking like a 50s relic, so while Bob Hope and Neil Armstrong have stayed here, so have Bill Clinton and Bono. The white, gray, and pink decor is refined and light, elegant without taking away from the blue skies and sea through the glass doors.
Large flat-screen TVs with DVD players also feature streaming "romantic" or "chill-out" music and continental breakfast is delivered each morning to an indoor/outdoor box by the door: sleep in as late as you want. Toiletries and the minibar are both extensive and these are some of the roomiest quarters in the region.
Alas, the dramatic hillside location is both a plus and a minus. To get virtually anywhere, a jeep must pick you up for a ride to a restaurant, the tennis courts, or the lobby complex with boutique and cigar shop. For now the business center by the lobby is the only spot for Internet access, though WiFi will spread in the new year.
The beach club, with its own seaside restaurant, requires a longer excursion on a shuttle bus. For hanging out on a private pool terrace and acting like you own the place, however, having to summon a chauffeur at your beck and call can be viewed as a minor inconvenience.
