The MGM Grand Detroit opened up last Tuesday but the christening party hosted by Kid Rock and Wolfgang Puck did not bless this hotel well, according to a recent guest.

HotelChatter tipster Pat stayed at the hotel the other night and was disappointed from start to finish. From the excess charges to use the gym or pool to the fire alarm going off in the middle of the night, it's safe to say Pat won't be going back.

Let's hope MGM can fix these sorts of problems fast and maybe this will be a lesson for their new Atlantic City property too.

After the jump, the full review.

From HotelChatter tipster Pat, who stayed at the hotel on October 10, 2007:

My tip is actually to share my experience with staying at the MGM Grand Hotel in Detroit last night. I thought the price was over inflated and in no way was it worthy of the $309.00 price tag.

I was disappointed to learn that I would have to pay $10.00 each time I went to the pool or $25.00 if I wanted to go down and sit in the Jacuzzi. Usually hotel guest get to use the pool and Jacuzzi as a benefit of being a registered guest.

The room was not any larger than a normal hotel room and the bathroom had a shower but no bathtub. If you want fancy lights, nice telephones, and expensive linens...then you might enjoy the room.

I also ate at the buffet and was glad I had enough comp point for the meal because I left hungry due to cold food and tough chicken...I was really upset with the quality of the food.

I know the hotel is new and the fire alarm going off in the middle of the night sending us into the hallways in our night clothes can be over looked but to have it again the next morning encouraging us to go down the 12 flights of stairs then to be told when I called the desk it was a drill...was too much!

The hotel staff was great in handing out `I'm sorry' words but nothing was done to make me feel they really wanted to make it right by me. I will not stay at the hotel again nor will I suggest to others that they waste their money staying there.
