Standard Hotel NYC Rises Somewhat Awkwardly

January 9, 2007 at 3:21 PM | by | Comment (1)

Curbed has just posted pics of the construction taking place on Andre Balazs' Standard Hotel NYC. And while we are no expert on construction, this looks like some unusual activity. Curbed says:

Photos taken from Washington Street and the parking lot on the western side of the construction site; it's certainly one of the--er, odder--early construction scenes we've ever seen. Then again, the building design by Polshek Partnership seems to be an odd beast itself.

Curbed also posted the rendering for the Standard which is after the jump if you dare to click.

Aside from the upside down Standard sign, the rendering reminds us somehow of a municipal courthouse building built in the 1950s. But that's just us.

But what I really want to know is...do blacklists cross coasts? Will I be automatically tasered if I come within 50 feet of the place? Whatever, I'm never in that neighborhood anyway.
