[Ed. Note: Hotel Maven Staro had a bang-up stay at the Grand Hotel Besson in Italy where the hotel's noisy nightclub among other things ruined the entire trip. Enjoy.]

Where do I start!

We've just returned from a week at the Grand Hotel Besson in Saux d'Oulx, Italy. It was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. There are some good points, which I will try to state among the many bad points.

The main problem was the noise. Some people can sleep with a bit of noise but not many can sleep with a loud nightclub booming out from 12:30pm - 5am MOST evenings!

No where in the holiday brochure, hotel website or other websites does it mention that there is a nightclub underneath this hotel at the front. The hotel staff could not move us as the hotel was full but we clearly noticed guests leaving and new guests arriving. Our rep also unfortunately could not move us to a downgraded hotel as the whole resort was full! Hard to believe! In the end we moved ourselves out, a night early on our own expense.

All floors in this hotel are wooden and the doors are not very soundproofed plus all rooms have loud TVs. We had some loud young people opposite our room who would stay up late listening to MTV very loud. The hotel staff could or would not solve this problem!

More Hotel Hell after the jump

The reception staff are incompetent and are not interested in resolving problems. It took them 5 days to fix my safe even though I reported that it needed batteries an hour after arriving. They also had our details incorrect when checking in and continued to mis-name us for the week. They charged us to use the Internet terminal and when we didn't actually use the voucher they wouldn't refund! They didn't know that the Internet terminal could print. On checking out our bill was incorrect. The reception staff would often talk to other guests over your shoulder, when you needed their attention to report a problem or make an enquiry.

The plus points are that the restaurant is good and the food slightly above average. The spa is well equipped but does get flooded on the floor in places and the outside jacuzzi has no seat to rest on. The spa staff are impolite and rude. They only gave some of our friends robes and others not. The bar staff and restaurant staff are pleasant and courteous.

To get to the spa/swimming pool you gave to walk through the bar! The ski room is large enough but cannot be reached from inside the hotel. The mini-bus driver who runs you to the lifts is very nice and a credit to the hotel.

This hotel is the only 4 star hotel in the resort so has no competition so I'm not expecting it to improve.

It's a real pity because the hotel furnishings and rooms are well equipped and the showers are great!

I don't recommend this hotel to anyone!
