[Ed. Note: Experienced traveler and Hotel Maven GEOmbfl rarely gets excited when checking out new places but the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevei Resort in Thailand has shaken him up. He offers up his semi-conscious review...er we mean semi-stream of consciousness review below.

The moment when you get into the gold cart and are taken to the reception, I was in awe from the moment I arrived. Before I even stepped into the property I knew this was going to be the nicest place I have ever stayed. I am pretty fortunate in my life and get spoiled by the ability to see a lot and travel so a lot of times I arrive and leave places, hotels and cities under-impressed. Well. let me tell you this is without a doubt the most impressive experience I am about to experience.

It appears already to be a magical experience as I arrive up at the front of the palace/temple entrance. I am given chilled watermelon juice a string of lavender placed around my neck and informed that spa breakfast will be served in the rice fields tomorrow at 8 am. And you can watch the buffalo come in as someone horns them in with his music. It sounds like a dream.

The scent of lavender overwhelms you with its infectious mellow aroma. Yes, this is paradise like I have never seen before. I often laugh when I hear of resorts like this charging so much money a night, well this is the first time I have ever actually bought into it.

I am in Villa 69 (how perfect) a lovely two-story, two-bedroom villa with pool, hot tub and piano. I want to stay in, order in so I ordered dinner and with the help of 5 staff members, the hotel created the ultimate BBQ dinner on the patio for me and my guests that was remarkable.

There's also four restaurants, the spa, and a library. The place is so big they offer bicycle tours of the 60 acres of this property and horse drawn buggies to take you around the grounds.

For this experience it is an amazing bargain from $465. Villas start at $ 640. I can not say enough, for a honeymoon, vacation, divorce, celebration, midlife crisis, depression, any moment in time you want to be in peace, this is IT! HANDS DOWN!
