Check In
Simple and friendly. Attractive people welcome you with a smile sponsored by Crest Whitestrips. Only issue here was the person that checks you in is also responsible for answering the phone, which means if the phone rings, you wait.
Common Areas
Heat lamps outside, fireplace inside. White couches and steel bar tops. The entire common area double as boé restaurant--efficient multitasking if you ask us.
Parking
Ok so we read that some TripAdvisor drones were bitching about $24.00 parking. Yes the valet parking is just across the street. So we know what you are thinking, find an open street spot and pump the meter full of coins until 6pm, then you are in the clear, $24.00 saved, right? Wrong. Beverly Hills has an unmarked policy where they ticket "non placard displaying" cars from 2:30 - 5:00 AM, and you will get a ticket. That ticket will be $45.00. So instead of saving $24.00 you are paying an extra $21.00 if you choose this strategy. Yes this happened to us, and yes we need to put it up on Jaunted's Where to Park In Los Angeles map to save the rest of you.
Room Reaction
Room 211, a regular queen room is tiny. Super tiny. Like New York City tiny. So tiny you can sit at your bed and type away on your laptop...while it is on the desk. Seriously, rivals the Paramount NY for smallest room ever. However, the bed is comfortable, so if you are only here to sleep, it isn't a terrible option. The fresh fruit at turndown was a very cool touch (we got an orange).
WiFi
The good news? Free WiFi! Network SSID goes by crescent--it is all click and go. Refreshing. The bad news? During our stay the network would consistently drop us, then let us back on. Frustrating. Also, we couldn't use our IM client, which meant too many cell phone conversations in order to get some work done. Grr.
Location
Great if you need to be in Beverly Hills, and just fine if you need to get to Century Center or Hollywood, though you will most likely have to drive there--this is LA after all.
Cost
We paid $235 all in.
Bottom Line
The Crecsent is Gregory Peck's (the living hotelier not the no longer with us Oscar winning actor) proverbial stake-in-the-ground-hotel. If you want to be a player in the hotel game you have to be in LA, then NY, or vice versa. It is a decent boutique hotel and we were actually able to both lounge and sleep there, which is after all the whole point of Peck's loungesleep company. Furthermore, despite rumors of unbearable night noise we didn't have an issue. Yes we could hear the neighbors television, but that isn't so bad. However, our room was back of property, so if you want a chance at a decent nights sleep follow our lead. Oh and Greg, can you get that WiFi network fixed? If you do, let us know.
