Aloft No Longer Opening First in Lenox, MA?

The aloft hotel hype machine has been trucking all over the country for the past year but we were pretty sure their first property was going to open up in Lenox, Mass. sometime in 2008. Now, it looks like Starwood Hotels have changed their minds as Rancho Cucamonga outside of LA might be the first property to open its doors.

"We firmly believe that tomorrow's traveler is coming to this area," said Brian McGuinness, vice president of aloft hotels. That traveler currently pays for limited wireless Internet access or high-speed cable hookups in most large hotel chains. Some offer alarm clocks or separate stereos to hook up MP3 players. Aloft promises an easy system to plug music players and laptops directly into the hotel's high-definition televisions.

Another hint that this place will open before the others? They held the official groundbreaking yesterday morning near Haven Avenue and Fourth Street. Looks like California is just a better fit for aloft for their first property what with the whole aloha welcome theme and car wash. But we are genuinely excited about the propose room rate--from $100 to $120 a night.
