When we unveiled the first installment of our Viva Las Vegas Hotel Map, we put forth what we believed were the strip's High Roller casino hotels.

Now that everyone has had time to unwind from the holiday drama, we are releasing the next tier--Breaking Even. However, unlike the first tier, we will be profiling a new 'Breaking Even' hotel every day for the next few weeks, followed by the 'Crapping Out' hotels rather than just dumping 10 hotel review on you at once. So be sure to keep checking in for our newest map additions.

As always with our maps and stories, we love to hear your first-hand accounts of the hotels we profile, so if you have a story, send it our way and we'll make sure it gets posted.

The introductory Breaking Even Hotel will be unveiled after the jump.

The first Breaking Even hotel we are taking a look at is the Hard Rock Hotel. Now some of you make be asking why we could put Hard Rock on a Breaking Even tier when it's still the hottest place to be and be seen. Well, we have news for you. The early 2000s are officially over. The hotel still brings in some celebrity guests (like Tommy Lee on New Year's) and its Joint music venue hosts some of the hottest Vegas concerts without the mega-crowd of MGM's arena. And we presume that the Hard Rock's affiliation with anything rock n' roll will prevent it from ever crapping out.

But this is a place where trashy people come to be even more trashy than usual. Like having sex in the pool during Rehab parties, eating at Pink Taco, and getting tattooed. And Gridskipper found out, not surprisingly, that porn stars love the place. It's also very popular amongst rowdy college kids and as one reviewer notes: "Be aware that sound really travels in this hotel."

Yet there could be hope for this place in the future. Morgans Hotel Group--Ian Schrager's old company--is still to trying to purchase the hotel and they have publicly stated, that if they succeed, the hotel will be changed slightly to appeal to an older, and higher-paying clientele.

Gaudy Themed Attraction
The neon guitar that frames the entrance.

Showing Now
Beacher's Madhouse, described as Cirque du Soleil meets 'Girls Gone Wild'", is set to open March 31st featuring embattled Tiny KISS, Beachy the Goat, live monkeys, the world's oldest male stripper, a naked lady who rolls around on glass, and more. Also, recently ousted/pornographic poser Miss Nevada, Katie Rees, will co-host. Scary.

Hotel Hotspot
The pool, of course.

Top Restaurant
Peter Morton's son, Harry (ex-flame of Lindsay Lohan) runs the Pink Taco Mexican restaurant.

Who You are Most Likely To See Gambling
College kids and just-out-of college guys hoping to win big to pay for the hookers later.

Viva Vegas Category
Breaking Even.

Some official mumbo-jumbo from Morgan's for their investors about the offer to purchase Hard Rock ... click here

January 12, 2007 - "Morgans Hotel Group Co. (Nasdaq: MHGC) ("Morgans") announced today, in connection with the cash tender offer and consent solicitation by its wholly-owned subsidiary, MHG HR Acquisition Corp. (the "Company"), for any and all of the outstanding $140,000,000 aggregate principal amount of 8-7/8% Second Lien Notes due 2013 (the "Notes") of Hard Rock Hotel, Inc."

Does that mean the Hard Rock "Company" is worth the $140 mill?

Wow.  Not a huge fan of the 'Rock?  I have to admit many, many years ago I really liked staying here, but haven't done so in ages.  Even visiting hurts my ears nowadays, and the casino area is just too small.
