Cocktailing is a very high art--especially on South Beach, where striking poses while double fisting candy colored martinis is considered an America's Got Talent-worthy asset.

And while the de rigueur hotel bar scene swept into town over a decade ago when Ian Schrager set up his flowy white curtains and Starck-designs in a lil' ol Art Deco hotel called the Delano, the scene has been revamped thanks to the Sagamore Hotel's Social Miami, an haute-post of fabulous finger foods, fancy cocktails and, indeed, real art.

The Sagamore deems itself an art hotel and rightfully so, with masterpieces dotting the lobby and suites by the likes of Vik Muniz, Olafur Eliasson and Walker Evans, among many esteemed others.

For a while, however, drinking there was akin to drinking at the Met--after closing. After shedding Jason Pomeranc's Thompson Hotels management, new life has thankfully been injected into the Sagamore in the form of restaurant mogul Jeffrey Chodorow's genius concept, Social Miami, where communal tables are now filled with hipsters fighting over caviar studded deviled eggs to the tune of Motown meets Modest Mouse with a large side of Gnarls Barkley.

Star chef Michelle Bernstein's trendy tapas menu has drawn the foodie crowd in droves, but for the Nicole Richie crowd---er, the ones who don't eat--Social Miami has redefined the concept of the hotel bar with an artful infusion of sense stimulating sensations whose far reaching influences have also landed in La-La Land in the form of Social Hollywood.

South Beach may have been the New Haven to LA's Broadway, acting as a test market for the tough to please, been there done that LA-scenesters, but when it comes to socializing in a boozy, sophisticated way, it began right here in the MIA.
