Mancation Is All He Ever Wanted
For a while now, hotels have catered to female travelers by offering "Girlfriends Getaways" types of packages that involve cosmos, spa treatments, shopping trips and even help on the dating scene. Men haven't quite had as many package options, but besides golf what do they want?
Well, Gene Grabarnick longed for a hotel with all the things a man would want aside from golf on a getaway with friends.
Where the concierge ushers guests to the hottest clubs. Where requests, from hand-rolled cigars to a favorite beer in the mini-bar, are unflinchingly filled. Where luxury is wrapped in sexy, swanky style.
So he set out to make it. The Regent South Beach is Grabanick's dream hotel and caters specifically to the elusive male group of vacationers---the mancationers (although women are allowed.) He explained that his regular male outings were always short of certain luxuries which is how he came up with the amenity-rich, on-demand service of his new baby. Opening in October, the hotel doesn't appear to cut many corners, featuring a glass-bottom pool, Mercedes-Benz 500S house cars and 24-hour concierge service.
This idea isn't unique to Grabarnick. Other hotels are reaching out to the mancationers such as the Wild Dunes Resort in Palms, South Carolina and the Marquis Los Cabos Resort in Mexico both which offer sports along with what else but snacks, beer, poker, and others.
One has to wonder how long it will be until the hotels mix their dating-help women's packages with the mancationers' poker parties.
