New York City Hotel Openings Update

An emailer asked us if we could give them the what's what on the current New York City hotel scene.  

Specifically, the emailer wanted to know what hotels have opened in New York City recently, or are scheduled to open soon.

So, here is our latest off the cuff list.  Don't expect comprehensiveness, but this is what we are currently following in NYC:

Back in December of 2005 we put together our 2006 New York City Hotel Opening Preview.

On that list, Blue Moon Hotel and Vikram's Night Hotel have both managed to get heads in beds, while DeNiro's Downtown Hotel and Loft Hotel Tribeca have both significantly pushed back their openings, though there is still a shot both will open by the end of 2006.

Pomeranc's Pomeranc's Six Columbus is supposed to open this fall, maybe even as early as November, but don't hold your breath. Downtown, Allen Street aka Thompson LES project seems to have started faster than anticipated, and the folks over there are anticipating a Summer 2007 opening. (More on Pomeranc World tomorrow.)

Oh, and there is this little place called the Gramercy Park Hotel that we might have mentioned in passing when it opened last month.

Here are the other new, or soon to open New York City hotels currently on our radar:

·   Courtyard New York Manhattan :: Opened July 2006

·   Holiday Inn Express in Brooklyn :: Opened August 2006

·   Hilton Garden Inn Tribeca
Behind schedule, but construction is going on at 6 York St. Probably not opening until sometime in 2007.

·   The Plaza :: Early 2007

·   Wingate Inn Manhattan
Currently selling rooms for June 27, 2007--now that is advance notice.

·   Hard Rock New York
In Fall 2007 we will know if this dingy Schrager hotel corpse can be saved.
