The New Mini-Break Fad for Londoner's: London
With the latest scares in London and tight restrictions at the airports, more and more hotels in the city are tempting the locals to vacation with them. Scribe Erika Lederman is one of them. A local Londoner, she cancelled a mini-break to Sweden to avoid all the hassle and decided to be a tourist in her own city.
Lederman and her husband checked into the Soho Hotel where they let the hotel be the entertainment in their hometown. And the hotel delivered:
An added enticement was the film club that takes place every Sunday in the private screening room featuring cowhide-upholstered chairs and sofas. For an extra 35 pounds, we enjoyed a three- course brunch in Refuel, the hotel's restaurant, followed by a screening of ``Breakfast at Tiffany's.'' It would have been a shame to decline the option of champagne at an additional charge.
Other ways to keep the tourist vibe and escapist feel going included lounging with the paper then borrowing a DVD from the front desk and enjoying it with some ice-cream. Things spiced up even more the following morning when Scarlett Johanssen dined one table away from them at breakfast.
If this is too banal still, consider the Baglioni's offer: free use of a Maserati Quattroporte! The catch: only within a 1.5 radius of the hotel. Other hotels are incorporating stays with ticket to the local exhibitions, shows, and museums; time with a personal shopper, and special room service attention if you just want to stay in.
Take advantage of this time when hotels in London are getting more creative in order to help their city's peeps. After all, anyone can take advantage but if you really want to fit in, why not fake an English accent?
