Cousteau's Big Ass Big Island Eco-Hotel

There are few names that can back up an eco-hotel in this world but, Cousteau is definitely one of them. Jean-Michel Cousteau is sporting his name along with developer Sea Mountain Five LLC to plan such a large eco-hotel that it had to be on the Big Island in Hawaii.

Most eco-hotels sport 15-30 rooms since it's hard to abide by the strict guidelines and run an earth-friendly sewage system for anything larger. Yet this one will be the granddaddy of them all: a 300 room resort with a marine conservation, Hawaiian cultural center, and even residencies. In short, this will be a 434 acre eco-world. Staying in the resort fashion they'll even go so far as to throw in a golf course. And since it's Cousteau you can also count on some educational and fun coastal preservation programs.

The really cool thing is, this place isn't just earth friendly, it's people friendly as well:

The resort is expected to generate at least 517 new jobs for local residents. Developers are working with the community to create a program that would allow some of the proceeds from the project to go to improve local facilities and programs.

After dissing the Crocodile Hunter this week, this eco-hotel is a good start for Cousteau in redeeming himself.
