Hotel Tubs Going Down the Drain?

September 15, 2006 at 9:06 AM | by | ()

Back in March, hotel tubs seemed as if they were going to take off--especially those with voyeuristic tendencies.

But the LA Times seems to think that the hotel tub is on its way to extinction.

In today's hurried society, baths are becoming a rare occurrence, hoteliers say, so tubs are being replaced with larger shower-only stalls. The ick factor keeps many hotel guests out of tubs. Some are grossed out by the thought of who might have been soaking there before they checked in

When the Sofitel Los Angeles completed its recent renovation only 77 of the 309 rooms retained bathtubs. The rest got rain showers and hand-held shower wands, with privacy glass that allows you to look out at the hills but the hills can't look at you.

Even Holiday Inn is getting in on the shower craze, having recently spent $20 million upgrade their bathrooms increasing shower size by 25% and  installing Kohler Stay Smart showerhead. The only chain seeming to be resistant is Marriott who wants to see how all this shower-mania will play out first.
