Like the Marriott Smoking Ban and the Gramercy Park Hotel, Hotel Porn has been elevated to an Open Thread Status. Since we don't plan on sitting down and watching hotel porn at every hotel worldwide anytime soon, we need your help. Hotel workers, business travelers, porn haters, porn worshipers, let us in on your tips, tricks, and deep thoughts concerning hotel porn.

To kick things off, a hotel manager in LA tells us what he knows about your hotel porn watching habits after the jump

We recently received an email from the former guest services manager at an LA hotel. Beware: Hotel big brother is watching you when it comes to porn.

We switched from LodgeNet to OnCommand while I worked there and had a technician come in to train our staff. One of the things I remember most was that he mentioned that on average, adult selections were viewed for less than 5 minutes (It was lower but I don't remember the exact figure).

This little tidbit would help our front desk staff in case a guest "accidentally" turned it on. We had a terminal in the back of the front desk which would allow us to see how long a movie had been watched as well as which movie had been watched. It would only post the charge on the folio so the name of the movie didn't show up but we always knew, and if we didn't we could look it up. The adult titles were generally $9.99 for one or $29.99 for the 24 hour unlimited viewings. Most of the guest who tried to get the movie charges reversed would quickly change there tune when I came around front with a printout showing there exact viewing patterns.

Geez, when will people learn that Dutch girls shouldn't be punished for having big boobs? They should be celebrated!

There was some news story about 10 years ago where a hotel's record weekend take for hotel porn was when a minister's conference was going on at the hotel. I would guess that half of the anti-crusaders are the "do as I say, not as I do" types.

I'm not sure why this is a threat to anyone unless there are free previews offered. You only watch it if you want to. It's a conscious choice, just like subscribing to HBO at home and hearing trash talk is a conscious choice. If you don't want it, don't pay for it! The hotels can disable the movie option altogether if you have unattended kids you're worried about. (Or if you want to protect yourself from tempation I suppose...)

i'm pretty ambivalent about the whole issue but it is kinda weird how you know you can go to a Hilton or a Marriott or Holiday Inn and they will have porn on the TV for you. like who started that? who said "wouldn't it be great if you went to a hotel and you could order porn?" not the same group who put bibles in the nightstand that's for sure. altho, that bit abt the minister's conference makes me wonder....

What's the obsession with TV in hotels anyway? Porn or no porn, I'm always a little bewildered when people obsess over television options in hotels. Whether or not you're using a hotel for business or...I'll use vacation in this case, there are better options in most hotels than free HBO.

As for those who really think they can get out of their porn charges, it's like a bad sitcom! In this day and age don't think for a minute that your hotel doesn't know if you watched porn all weekend...like the ministers.

I'm tempted to call hotel porn a great equalizer, but I wonder: do chains choose what porn they offer, or is it standardized? Can you find Caught From Behind IV at the Ritz Carlton as well as the Super 8?

V-Chip for Hotel Porn (none / 0)

That is a great idea Tim.  Really fits everyone's needs.  If you are travelling with a family of four to the Hudson, just call ahead and request a A-Chip.  This adult block will nix any channels, pay or otherwise that you don't want your family to run into.

Though in my experience the only way to get to a Hotel Porn channel is to click on the "Adult" category, which seems clearly marked.
