Rockefeller Would Be Proud
Where: P.O. Box 70, Virgin Gorda
Mogul Laurance S. Rockefeller didn't mind that Columbus named a small piece of Caribbean paradise after a "Fat Virgin." Rockefeller's Little Dix Bay resort on Virgin Gorda is the epitome of a sleek supermodel who's anything but a virgin.
As hot as it is, however, Rosewood Resorts' Little Dix Bay is undergoing a bit of a nip/tuck that will soon reveal brand new guest rooms, junior suites and villas. According to a Rosewood rep, "It's a complete transformation in keeping with Laurance Rockefeller's vision of earth in balance when he founded the resort in the 1960s."
Although Rockefeller died in 2004, his vision also lives on in his former cottage at the Rosewood Resort's swank St. John stay, Caneel Bay, also undergoing a facelift, in which Rockefeller's former residence, Cottage 7, was recently revamped and 89 of the resort's 166 guestrooms are being transformed and ready for its close up sometime this fall.
As much as Rockefeller loved his hotels, which once were under the umbrella of his company Rockresorts, he also had a fascination with UFOs and the study of crop circles, neither of which have been spotted at any of his former resorts.
