The Clift Celebrates A Schrager-Less Fifth Anniversary

As Ian Schrager was readying up the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York, The Clift Hotel in San Francisco held its fifth anniversary party the other night with mayor Gavin Newsom in attendance, shown here with Morgans Hotel Group CEO Ed Scheetz.
If you didn't know, Ian Schrager was the mastermind behind the nine Morgans Hotel Group of which The Clift is a part. He left the company last June to start his Ian Schrager Hotels but apparently Morgans is still paying him close to $4 million a year and allowing him and his family to stay at any Morgans hotel for free. So it's safe to say he was there in spirit.
But the party was about The Clift, not Schrager. As Scheetz said,
"Since its introduction, we've seen many other large chain hotels try to imitate our offering...Clift represents all of the things our company has become known for: ground-breaking design, ground-breaking service and completely unique nightlife experiences.
