A cheap and cool hotel in London is music to our ears. Thanks to hotelier Sinclair Beecham the pricey city has a hot new place to rest with prices that won't send people with a certain dwindling currency, running.

The reasoning behind his Hoxton Hotel which opens tomorrow is one of the more amusing reasons for hotel entrepreneurship we've ever heard. Beecham told the The Observer:

'I paid £2.50 for a Mars bar in a hotel the other day,' he says, gesticulating wildly. 'I mean, what do they think I am? In business you've got to treat your customers with respect, not like dumb bastards. That's why I wanted to open a hotel, because I find it so frustrating.'

From this Mars bar frustration comes an affordable and hip hotel that is even friendly for Americans. And you can even call your friends back in the U.S. on the cheap as well. Beecham said he was also frustrated him that most hotels charge 2.50 pounds per minute--"What the fuck is that?" as he said.

As the co-owner of Pret a Manger in London, a hip eatery, the hotel also gets a little bit of Beecham's restaurant influence. In the rooms, mineral water and coffee are free as is the "Pret breakfast" which is left at your room door come sun-up. WiFi is free and alcohol is for sale at the front desk for "shop prices." And the rooms don't seem to be crappy either. They got Hypnos mattresses ("same as at the Metropolitan", says Beecham), thick and fluffy towels ("same as Claridge's") and soft lighting ("done by same company as the Schrager hotels").

So how much Beecham charging? Right now the hotel is offering crazy special deals online where five rooms are sold off for £1 a night. Other rooms start at £29 and go up the later you book. The Observer found a room next month on a weekend for just £59.
