What's Remoter Than Being Remote? North Mozambique Hotels

Where: Mozambique

Northern Mozambique is not a bastion of stylish accommodations, far from it, which is why Prince Harry and the rest of his jet-setting crew opt for the Bazaruto achipelago when they go island off Africa. However if you want something a bit more remote, where you might be able to experience a bit of cultural charm and not just isolated resortism, the somewhat dated but chill Pemba Beach Resort might be a good fit. While the rooms are dated guests rave about the service and the open air restaurant & pool.

If you are looking for something a touch newer, but still in the remote north, Matemo may fit the bill.  You will have to jaunt 60 miles off the coast to the remote island of Matemo, but once there one guest claims if you squint hard enough you might just think you are visiting a full blown five star island paradise:

The beaches are pristine, the service excellent and the ability to kick back and do nothing (and to be honest even forget you are in Mozambique) is huge - it really feels more like a more upmarket destination like Mauritius or the Seychelles there. One highlight is the day trip to Ibo island by boat.

Oh, and don't worry about that whole Mozambique civil war thing, that has been over since around 1994.  These days Mozambique is putting $136 MM into their airport upgrades and trying to put their best foot forward in the tourist destination game.
