Live Blogging Gramercy Park Hotel :: Staff and Service
Despite the fact that everyone who works at the Gramercy Park Hotel could easily make the list of best-looking people under 30 in Manhattan, Ian Schrager managed to find some very service-oriented staffers as well.
No one here has exhibited a too-cool attitude or has given unapproving looks as we strolled through the lobby admiring the artworks. The doormen are always friendly, giving you a smile and making small talk as they push open the revolving doors for you.
And since the hotel phones are missing the button descriptions, we have dialed the operator and the front desk about ten times, many times by mistake, and each time they have been extremely helpful. Even when we called down to the front desk at 10:30pm last night to report that our $750 customized GPH Nano was not in place in the docking station, the clerk promptly brought up a Nano and showed us how to use it--not that we needed a lesson, but what the heck, we took it.
Additionally, a concierge is on hand from 7am to 11pm to get you whatever you need, even hard-to-get show tickets are a possibility. We asked model/staffer #2 about the validity of the concierge's proclaimed ticket securing skills, and he said "they are pretty legit." Good enough for us.
The attentive service is not something we were expecting from a Schrager run property, and as a caveat we should add that all this good service could be because we are in the midst of week one here--what happens when rates climb to $550 a night next month? We would like to think the attention to service will only increase, but we will have to wait and see what the hotel mavens tell us about the service down the road. For now, let's say we were pleasantly surprised--remember these openings can get ugly real fast--and this one didn't.
How could we not live blog the Gramercy Park Hotel in its opening week? Last night we spent the night at Ian Schrager's place. This morning sit back and enjoy an extended live blogging session on our stay, live from GPH. Best place to catch up with the action is probably on the Gramercy Park Hotel page -- look for the "Live Blogging" stories.
