It's quite rare when some of the top magazines tout a hotel as one of the world's best and yet you can get a room there for 59 bucks.

The Jupiter Hotel can claim both of these qualities. Located in downtown Portland, the hotel has its own personality and loves parties:

It's stylish and contemporary, with all rooms furnished by Blu Dot, the renowned furniture used in MTV's Real World and it's own Target line. It's fun. There are wall-size photos, you can draw on other walls, toast marshmallows at the outdoor fire pit, hang out in the lounge...Live bands and parties occasionally liven up the central courtyard, which is why there are 'party rooms' (interior courtyard) and 'non-party rooms (away from the courtyard.)

But last year, we looked into whether or not this place was a funky boutique hotel a la San Fran's The Phoenix or rather, a motel largely due to its former life as a Travelodge and the loud rock band presence.

Judging from recent reviews, this place is moving down the motel spectrum. Among them, a "pretentious staff" and a whole slew of how sleazy the place is. This doesn't seem to match up with the Conde Nast and T+L approval sticker, which means this hotel took a turn for the worst--fast.

Oh and P.S. Word is you should bring your own towel and soap if you don't want to be ultimately disgusted.
