A Travelpod for Bonnaroo?

CNN.com gives us a story with Travelodge and "luxury" in the same sentence, then hits us with a polycarbonate "TravelPod" that's for music festival attendees? Someone's been smoking something...

Misleading headline of the week goes to this one from CNN.com: "Hotel rooms for those on the move." An especially wired hotel for the traveling exec perhaps? Or a new type of airport hotel with short stays? Actually, who stays at a hotel anyway if they are not "on the move" somehow?

But no, this story is actually about a product for people who aren't going anywhere for a few days. It's a $49 a night travel pod that is going to be marketed to music festivals attendees like those at Bonnaroo. Now call us skeptics, but it seems that most festival goers are going to look at how much they spent on tickets, figure out how many meals and mind-altering substances they can buy each day for $49, and then decide their free tent and sleeping bag are going to do just fine, thank you.

The subhead of the story reads, "A hotel company has come up with a new style of room that will suit those who love the outdoors but hate compromising on luxury." Ummmm, when did roadside motel company Travelodge start having anything to do with luxury? And how is this prettied up, oversized plastic tent with a bed some giant step up from, well, a tent? This is for people who don't like to compromise?

You want to see a luxury tent? Go on a $1,000 a night safari in Africa. Those swanky digs are as big as a house, with double vanities, fluffy robes, a soaking tub, and ceiling fans. They have big decks where you sip your coffee and swing in a hammock. Set a few of those babies up and you might even see the A-list celebrity money stacking up next to you at Bonnaroo.
