Bad Rate :: When Will Romance Packages Ever Learn?

It may be summer in hot Mexico, but that doesn't mean every Mexican package deal is a good value, especially when there's romance involved.

There's a lot to like about Casa del Mar Golf & Spa Resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. There are two staff members per room, plus lots of nice touches like robes, 42-inch plasma TVs, and 400 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets. You get nice views of the water from plenty of vantage points.

Their "Romantic Indulgence" package doesn't add up, however. For $482 per night (until October 31), this three night package includes round-trip airport transfers; welcome margaritas; champagne and fruit basket in room upon arrival; daily breakfast for two, a massage for two, and a candlelight dinner.

A lovely image, to be sure, but here's a better idea. Book a luxury suite in August for three nights, at $305, and you get the 4th night for free. So it averages out to $229 per night, for a better room, still including the airport transfers. Even without the free night, you're spending $177 less per night, or $531 less total for three nights, plus you are now in a suite. That difference will pay for more than a few breakfasts, dinners, massages, and margaritas--especially if you leave the grounds and hit the town.

This hotel offers plenty of other package options throughout the year though. As usual, surf past any deal with the words "romantic" or "romance" in it and you'll get far more pleasure for your pesos.
