Last week there was finally a rustle from Camp Gramercy Park Hotel. Schrager himelf, er or more likely his personal assistant, sent out the some sort of Treasure Hunters-esque velvet key box things "announcing" the Gramercy Park Hotel's quiet opening August 8th. Later in the week Schrager's PR crew pointed us to the new GPH website.

We tried to spend some time on the website over the weekend, but couldn't access parts of it, so we called the Gramercy Park Hotel hotline, where we wasted fifteen minutes of our Saturday night on hold, which was just enough time for us to realize we needed to hang up and get a life. Oh, and no one ever took our call.

Hopping back on the new GPH website today we tried to find something, anything, that qualified as game changing. Is it the fact that page after page of site copy talks of how Schrager has created a "sensuous vision of artful diversity", hope not, or is it that top three stories on the press page find a different way to dub Schraeger some sort of "King", nope, can't be that. Hmm. We are not sure if this is game changing, but we are glad the web site wasn't full of annoying dancing Flash animation.

What did intrigue us was when we went to look at Gramercy Park Room availability the little note that said $250 Introductory Offer August 8 - September 4 was no where to be found.

As a matter of fact August 26 was the only August night we could find available at the reasonable $250 introductory rate. After that rooms shoot up to $550 a night. Perhaps this exorbitant rate is the game changing part.

Can someone please tell us how Gramercy Park Hotel is flipping the script? Nemo Librizzi's hotel "hash hammock" idea is looking way more game changing than anything we have heard out of camp GPH.
