The Fairmont Vancouver has two canines on staff just to be your best friend whenever you feel like it. These dogs are available for dog walks, petting and heart-to-heart talks for those moments when you wish your dog could be there. Hey, if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with. Here's a short tour of the doghouse.

Re: Inside Fairmont's Doggie Lair

The Loews Annapolis hotel also has a dog "on staff" to help clients ... I think his name is Luke? More hotels need to do this.

Re: Inside Fairmont's Doggie Lair

I like the idea, too, CourtneyMay, as I miss my pets terribly when I travel.  I hope, however, that these dogs get to go home with their regular person at night.  Dogs need to connect with one person regularly in order to be comfortably and unagressive with strangers, no matter how docile their breed.

That being said, a "perk" like this would likely make me choose their hotel over a competitors.

Re: Inside Fairmont's Doggie Lair

Great point langtry. The doggies at both the Fairmont Hotels in Vancouver are actully the full time pets of long-time employees. They definately go home with their owners and do not come to "work" if they aren't feeling up to it. It's a wonderful for their owners, and for the lucky guests that really enjoy walking the pooches when they are in-house. Many guests stay at the two Fairmonts specifically to visit with their canine friends!

Re: Inside Fairmont's Doggie Lair

Yup, I hear that Luke at the Loews in Annapolis was rescued by the staff when the local humane society came by with him and that most nights he goes home with his 'owner' who works in sales or reservations or something similar. But I love the idea of the doggy house in the lobby and letting the dogs get the attention they want.
