The Gramercy Park Hotel is gearing up for its rapidly approaching August 8th opening date.

And while we have no word on whether the rooms are ready, the ("game-changing"?) kitchen is. Allure magazine toasted August cover girl, Kate Hudson, there last week. 35 VIP guests were invited to the dinner which prompted editor-in-chief Linda Wells to tell the guests:

"This is the first event anyone's ever had here and they had to build a kitchen for tonight" Wells quipped. "Ian said, `it won't be ready the day before, Linda, but it will be ready as guests arrive.'"

Guests including Liv Tyler, were reportedly impressed with the hotel's Rose Bar, admiring the artwork of Picasso and the hotel's designer, Julian Schnabel. Andy Warhol and Cy Twombly pieces are expected to be put up soon.

So perhaps what is so "game-changing" about GPH is the extensive art collection throughout the hotel. Which is nice but when Schrager declared the boutique hotel "dead", we're expecting more from his hotel than art on the walls.
