Qantas Employees 'Threatened' at Los Angeles Hotel
Crew members of Qantas airlines were a little more than pissed about their crew hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
According to the crew member's union reps, the crew was exposed to drug dealers and violence at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel:
...the area was "rampant with drug dealers and intimidating locals" and some cabin crew had been physically assaulted, had experienced threats of assault, witnessed drug dealing and taking, and been subject to harassment and intimidation.
The reviews on the hotel are not spectacular (namely complaints about wet carpets) but no other reports of violence. After all, this is a Westin in Los Angeles, not a motel off the highway. Still having spent some time in downtown LA ourselves at dubious hours, the place is pretty scary after dark no matter how hard the city tries to make it a destination spot.
Either way, Qantas airlines will now have to personally inspect the hotels they choose for their crew members, up their meal allowances and provide more shuttle bus trips.
Our only question is why have the flight crew so far from the airport? That's like an hour drive in traffic which is pretty much all the time in LA.
