How Your Dog Spent His Summer Vacation

July 19, 2006 at 3:05 PM | 0 Comments

Dogs in hotels are so hot right now. Hotels employ doggie ambassadors and offer up "house dogs" for you to walk or cuddle with when you start to miss your own. More and more hotel chains are starting to open their rooms up to your four-legged friends so you shall never be apart. There are even dog hotels that have a No Humans Allowed policy.

Now, some hotels are going even further than just letting your dog crap on their rugs for an extra $25 a night.

Modern Dog magazine lists 18 Awesome Activities to do with your dog this summer and three of them are hotel packages that are centered around your dog.

At the Palmetto Bluff Resort in South Carolina, the hotel is doing a "Dog Days of Summer" special Aug. 18-20 where you and Fido can attend a "corks and cold noses" wine tasting party (that sounds soo dirty), get in a boat and travel to an ocean sandbar for some frolicking in the water, and relax at an outdoor movie screening. We're guessing it's something like "Air Bud" or "Turner and Hooch."

Loews Coronado Bay resort in San Diego says screw the boat trip to the sandbar and give your dog surfing lessons. For $300 a night you get deluxe accomodations, surfing lessons for you and your pooch, doggie board shorts (we kid you not) a copy of The Dog's Guide to Surfing and some doggie room service.

If you want a less-active trip for you and your dog, then consider the B&B Dog Bark Park Inn in Cottonwood, Idaho where the lodgings are within a giant wooden beagle named "Woody."

Even for us, a dog owner and lover, these packages seem a little over the top. And there's just no way we could deal with the blow to our self-esteem if our dog could surf better than us.
