Hotel Blog Watch: Hawthorne Hotel
The Hawthorne Hotel is a small hotel in Salem, Mass. but the hotel has had its own blog for the last year and a half.
General Manager Juli Lederhaus posts every day about the events happening at the hotel, who won the employee of the month award, special dishes served in the restaurant, along with info about sightseeing and places to stop in the surrounding area.
To make it easier to find a story, there's a blog index where you can quickly locate her posts about the hotel's wallpaper, weddings, and history. Since the hotel is one of the Historic Hotels of America (first opened in 1925), Juli often does posts on this subject:
As we talk to our guests we almost always find connections with them to events in our past. That is certainly one of the enjoyable things about being an historic hotel. We share a common history with our customers, and that history helps us to understand one another, and enjoy one another even more.
So you can tell that Juli will not be griping about customers a la Farmer's Daughter's blog. But the blog is useful to checkout if you plan on staying there and would like to see what's going on. Consider it the modern-day version of a hotel's print out of Daily Activities that you would normally find at the front desk.
Our favorite? The weekly posts about which flags will be hanging outside the hotel on each day of the week.
As for actually staying at the hotel, just keep in mind this is an old hotel in Massachusetts. The rooms are on the small side and modern amenities are scarce.
