We stayed in the Belfry room on the fourth floor--an oversized room with exposed beams, a good sized sitting area, two skylights, and a huge bathroom. The bathroom includes double sinks and an enclosed shower, something some Belgium hotels we encountered on our field trip left out.
Furthermore, there is a full-blown work desk under the hanging television that comes with a connected PC. The only problem with this set up is the hotel charges 15 a day for Internet access, however we found a cool loophole. If you connect to the open "linksys" wireless network, a full four bars appear, at least in our room, and you will be surfing fast and free.
The room also came with a in-wall ironing board and iron, a digital room temperature device (very key), and nightly chocolates. One quick antidote about the maid service. We are absolutely paranoid about hotel bed spreads. As soon as we get in the room the bedspreads must go--far far away. No matter how nice the hotel we are always suspicious of those spreads--we blame the stories the Hotel Mavens tell us, and Dateline, for our uncontrollable paranoia. In any event, the maid service must have noticed we had bed spread phobia, because when we entered our room in the evening during day two, we noticed the maid had taken the liberty of taking off the bedspread, folding it nicely, and placing it on a table in the sitting area, far away from our bed. We thought this was a nice personal touch, the maids were obviously taking notes on our preferences.
As for the rest of the staff, they were extremely helpful in helping us plot daily walking routes, and more importantly when the lights went out in Flanders (big time power outage), stopping all trains between Brussels and Brugge, the staff arranged on the fly for us to get a fair priced ride to the Brussels airport.
The fourth floor sun deck, open to all, was mostly unused during our stay, and makes for a great breakfast spot, though the weather was a bit overcast during our stay, so depending on your timing, it could easily be the overcast deck, but the views are worth it regardless.
So what is the bottom line here? Brugge is a romantic Belgium city with plenty of hotel choices. If you are taking your significant other, and you want to impress, you should throw down for one of the more romantic hotels in town--and it is going to cost you. Hotel Heritage would be one such hotel. Prepare to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of 175 for a room at a place like Hotel Heritage, and more for the suites, but if you want to make a romantic impression you gotta spend a little.
Hotel Heritage was nice enough to offer us this room gratis, so we could check out their hotel while in Brugge--big ups to Hotel Heritage for their gesture and their hospitality during our stay.
